How much is crude oil per barrel? I've lost count, is it $135 per barrel or more? Probably. All I know is that it keeps going up and I am really starting to feel the pinch every time I pull up to a gas station to refuel.
The highest price I have seen in my area is $4.03 and I ended up paying that price just the other day only because I was in a bad situation. I waited too late to refuel and was almost on empty. I have got to be more aware.
Nevertheless I have got some tips to help you get better gas efficiency.
Regular Maintenance.
If you change a dirty air filter it can help improve your gas efficiency by 10 percent. Also make sure you get your prescribed oil changes and tuneups. When an engine is running smoother it's more efficient and effective and less strain on the engine and therefore improves gas mileage. Inflate your tires to the correct level as noted by the manufacturer because underinflated tires lower your gas mileage.
Oil Changes
Changing your oil at the correct intervals, every three to four months, or every 3,000miles also helps your gas mileage. Use the proper grade of oil for your car. My car takes 10W-30 and I make sure that's the only thing that goes back in during an oil change. Using the wrong grade of oil lower your gas mileage by 1 to 2 percent.
No idling.
There have been a number of times when I get caught in rush hour traffic and I'm forced to sit and sit and sit. This is another waster of gas. Whenever I can avoid rush hour I do. Unfortunately this is not always possible. If your schedule allows you to travel and avoid rush hour it would be in your best interest to do so.
Steady Speed.
You are going to see your gas mileage dcrease substantially once your speed increases to 60 mph and greater. I now find myself doing 55mph on the freeway just to make sure I am not wasting any gas unnecessarily.
Excess Baggage.
Adding an extra 100 pounds in your car reduces mpg by approximately 2 percent. Whenever you tote things on your car it increases drag which in essence will reduce your fuel efficency by five percent.
Observe all of these tips and you should be able to go a little further on your dollars spent.
To Your Great Success.

These are all good tips. I am trying to follow all of them. I have been trying to see how far I can get on my tank of gas and have been tracking it on my blog. Gotta save money every way we can.

Dave,
I know exactly what you mean. There seems to be no end to the increase in prices. I have to admit I never followed these types of tips and strategies until now. I make it a point not to take off too fast from a read light. I used to drive 65 and 70 mph on the freeway all the time....ha! not anymore. Now when I take trips through the city I am noticing that my gas is lasting a lot longer.
Keep following the tips. Hope they continue to help.
